What causes sBCC?

The most common cause of sBCC is exposure to ultraviolet (UV) light, a component of sunlight. Indoor tanning, fair-skinned complexion, and some inherited genetic conditions are other important risks factors for sBCC. The disease most often occurs as a result of overexposure to the sun, particularly sunburn that leads to blistering, and is more likely to appear on a fair-skinned person, typically on the head, neck, or hands.
